![]() He even tells me when we're riding if there is wire in our path. On a positive note, there is lots of wire down on the ranch and occasionally a horse will come in with minor cuts. Have to think about that and do lots of testing. I think I may do some training on him breaking it and hope it doesn't transfer to regular tie ups. So a breakaway it would seem to be totally safe would need to break so casually that he would never even notice he was hung up. He's very trained on electric fences so he respects all fences but I would be devastated if something happened to Hondo whether it was my fault or not. Theoretically he could even get the unit hung on a fence wire if braided to his mane if he reached through the fence. I do think he would struggle some to move with the herd but maybe not enough if the breakaway was too strong. The herd is large enough with enough paints in it to help but by himself it could be a bear. And if he was out of satellite site for more than 30 minutes I WOULD find him. If he did not struggle, I would need to search every inch and could have a very hard time finding him. In a heavy canopy there have been as many as three 10 minute signals go missing before he moved to where it was more clear. Yes, he just stands there waiting for his trained human to come fix it.Īnd although there is hardly more than two hours go by without me checking on his location, the location signal is transmitted to a geostationary satellite which requires a reasonable view of the Southern sky. Hondo does not panic if his foot is hung in the fork of a branch on the ground or a drag rope. I'll make certain that I can break it with my own strength and if I can break it I'm 100% positive Hondo won't even know it when/if it breaks. I will fashion a breakaway on the collar and then test it myself. So anyhow, I've decided to ditch the breakaway halter and go the collar route. Every few days we ride to them and graze with them for a while. Besides, I really don't like keeping him from his buddies that much. But that'll end as soon as the grass starts up. ![]() ![]() I have him in a 60 or so acre field right now and feed him in my yard. I would try a car horn with Hondo and likely succeed except for the fact that he's hanging with 16 other horses and is not about to leave them unless I'm right there to leave with him. So since I already have it lying around, it's use is free with Hondo except for the batteries. So on trail rides I carry it on my person as I don't want Hondo running off with it. My subscription includes helicopter extraction. Love it and just bought my horse one too.I actually have the SPOT for myself on trail rides. I have never had a nylon halter that did not fade. Best of all, the color has held up to winter and summer conditions. The chin clip swivels so the protruding part does not rub against her cheek. Fits beautifully and I love that it is padded and thus, stronger than most nylon halters. ![]() Beth Glaceīought a purple one fro my 10 and a half hand pony. This is a well made halter, nicely padded, and comes in a great selection of colors. ![]() Serena OudekirkĪ great halter! Looks amazing on my grey pony and he loves the extra padding! Erica Houdini hasn't figured out how to get it off yet. Works great with the Best Friend grazing muzzle. ![]()
